Nineteen local clubs will join the newly formed Hills Football association next year.
The Football NSW-backed association will begin its inaugural season in 2017 after months of talks with the unsanctioned Sydney Hills Football Association and other clubs in a bid to create a local sanctioned competition. The SHFA broke away from the parent body in 2016 due to travelling distances.
Football NSW announced the club list on Friday afternoon, with Baulkham Hills, Castle Hill RSL, Rockets, Castle Hill United, Coptic United, Glenhaven, Hills Knights, Hills Spirit, Hills United, Kellyville, Kellyville United, Kenthurst & District, North Rocks, Norwest, Rouse Hill Rams, Rouse Hill Rangers, St Bernadette’s, Sydney North West, The Hills Grammar School and Winston Hills football clubs joining the association.
The list includes 12 of the Sydney Hills Football Association’s clubs, as well as four from the Granville & Districts Soccer Football Association.
Two clubs have joined from the Gladesville Hornsby Football Association, while one club has moved from the NSW Churches Football Association.
The Board of Football NSW received 21 applications from clubs wanting to join the new Hills association, but rejected the applications of Toongabbie FC and AFC Box Hill.
Football NSW decided that Toongabbie FC will remain in the Granville and Districts Soccer Football Association, while the board has asked AFC Box Hill to provide further information about its “governance structure and the venues at which it will train and play its home matches before it will be given further consideration”.
The 19 accepted clubs can nominate members for the Board of Hills Football.
Nominations for directors will close at 5pm on Friday ahead of the first annual general meeting on Thursday, December 1.
Registrations for players will begin early next year.
