Two Castle Hill brothers have returned from their first international gymnastics competition triumphant.

Ethan and Aiden Princena-White competed in the 2016 Valeri Liukin Invitational in Texas in December with 13 of their NSW Mens Gymnastics High Performance team members.

Aiden, who competed in the Level 8 (11-12 years) category, finished equal fifth on his favourite apparatus, the pommel horse.

Aiden, 12, said he now hoped to continue travelling overseas “to compete in bigger competitions and to also do well at the State Championships and qualify for the Australian Championships”.

Ethan, who competed in the Level 8 (13+ years) category, finished third all around, second on rings and floor and fourth on high bar.

The 14-year-old’s impressive results came just weeks after he spent almost three months recovering from a repeat wrist injury.

“I felt really nervous because I only had a few weeks (to prepare), I just gave it my best,” he said.

“I had no expectations of placing so coming home with medals makes me even more motivated to work harder in preparation for my upcoming competitions and hopefully qualifying for the Australian Championships in May this year.”

The William Clarke College students spend between 20 and 30 hours per week training as members of the C2K Fitness and Aquatics Centre and the NSW Mens Gymnastics High Performance program under the direction of coaches Yusuf Topari and Hongwei Du.

The boys hope to one day represent Australia at the Commonwealth and Olympic Games.
