A true athletic all-rounder

Excelling in one sport would be difficult enough for most of us, but not for Blake Archer.

Excelling in one sport would be difficult enough for most of us.

Not for Blake Archer, who has honed his talents in five — athletics, AFL, cricket, soccer and basketball.

Blake, of Dural, started Little Athletics at the age of three following in his dad’s footsteps.

“Dad used to compete in Little Athletics himself and now we compete together for the same seniors club occasionally on some weekends,” Blake said.

Blake, 12, has represented NSW in Little Athletics every year since 2013 and made this year’s NSW Junior Athletics Representative U14 team for javelin, despite only being 12 at the time.

“My proudest achievement will have be winning the State Championship for javelin in the 2015/2016 season of Little Athletics,” he said.

“My dad was also a Little Athletics state champion, so now I can say that we’re both state champions.”

Blake’s athletics talent can only be rivalled by his own AFL prowess.

Blake has played AFL since he was five, and joined the GWS Giants U13 Academy this year.

He also plays for Westbrook in its U13 Division 1 team.

“AFL is my favourite team sport because it is a fun game and I have a very supportive group of teammates,” he said.

“We worked really hard and it paid off as we won the Sydney Harbour Comp and became the premiers in the U13 Division 1 competition this season.”

In his spare time, he plays for Kenthurst Cricket Club and has also joined basketball and soccer teams at The Hills Grammar School.

“Playing different sports allows me to stay active and meet lots of different friends from various clubs and schools,” Blake said.
