A new seafood restaurant run by the people behind one of The Hills’ most popular cafes will open in Dural later this year.
Caroline Neill Ryan and Che Vogler will launch their new restaurant, Cod’s Gift, around the corner from their popular cafe Wolfe & Co.
The restaurant will focus on sustainably caught seafood, unique cocktails and a wine list starring list natural and biodynamic drops.
Ms Neill Ryan said the concept they had planned was a “really good fit” for the space in Ward Place.
“The site became available and we thought it was a wonderful opportunity,” she said.
The 70-seat restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner, and will also have a separate takeaway section for seafood to go.
Wolfe & Co’s head chef David Koorey will become executive chef of both venues, overseeing a menu of seasonal seafood sourced from around the country including Barramundi from Western Australia and the Northern Territory and kingfish and mussels from South Australia.
“We’re going to be working with our fishmongers to see what is best … so the menu is going to reflect that,” Ms Neill-Ryan said.
Diners can expect “playful, fun innovative takes on old favourites” using the best, fresh produce that guests of Wolfe & Co have come to love.
“Wth Cod’s Gift, the produce is the hero so we’re really going to be making the beautiful sustainable seafood the star,” she said.
There will also be steak, chicken and vegetarian options for the non-seafood eaters.
Ms Neill-Ryan described the decor as “a little bit more luxe” than Wolfe & Co’s minimalist vibe with coloured velvet and light features, and weekends will also feature live music and DJs.
The cocktail list, still under construction, will feature classics as well as new twists such as a salt and vinegar martini and a ‘gin and juice’ with saffron gin, dragonfruit and watermelon.
Mr Vogler and Ms Neill-Ryan hope to open the venue in August.
“We’re so excited, we can’t wait,” Ms Neill-Ryan said.
