The man accused of assaulting a spectator at an Under 9s rugby league game at Kellyville has pleaded guilty in court over the horrifying incident, which was caught in mobile footage during the game.

Semisi Paea, 35, of Seven Hills, pleaded guilty in Parramatta Local Court to two charges, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray after punching fellow spectator, Scott Ventham, in the back of the head at a Kellyville Bushrangers and Rouse Hill Rhinos game on Saturday, June 29.

Court documents revealed Peae admitted to police he was guilty in an interview following the incident.

Magistrate Leanne Robinson ordered Paea to undertake a concurrent nine and 15-month intensive correction order during sentencing, as well as a psychological assessment.

Police fact sheets revealed Paea was making comments to the referee of the game regarding calls he was making against the Kellyville Bushrangers.

“The referee called over the game official, Stanford Webster, and asked to ask the accused to leave the grounds,” the court documents said.

It was also stated on the court documents a co-accused crossed the sideline rope and asked the game official to fight him, before punching Mr Webster in the face.

“A spectator, Scott Ventham, saw the co-accused punch Mr Webster and tackled him to the ground,” the police fact sheet said.

Semisi Paea ran onto the field and punched Mr Ventham in the back of the head before the men were pulled apart by other parents.

Police fact sheets documented the “extensive” amount of mobile phone footage of the incident and raised concerns for the number of young children on surrounding fields that witnessed the incident.

Semisi Paea is required to attend Blacktown Community Corrections Office as part of his sentence.
