A man has handed himself into police following a series of carjackings across The Hills — including an incident where he allegedly ordered an elderly couple out of a Toyota Yaris at knifepoint.
The 31-year-old man, from Parramatta, was charged with one count of aggravated take, drive and conveyance, one count of take, drive and conveyance and one count of possession of a prohibited drug, after he allegedly stole a White Hino Tipper truck from a petrol station on Windsor Rd, Kellyville Ridge around 8.30am on Friday, October 4.
Police allege the man drove to the intersection of Nelson and Hynds roads, Nelson, where he stopped in the middle of the road and approached a silver Toyota Yaris waiting behind the truck.
“He threatened the elderly occupants with a knife, demanding they exit the car before dragging the 78-year-old male driver from the car,” a NSW Police spokeswoman said.
“He sustained severe bruising. His 65-year-old wife was shaken but uninjured.”
The man drove the stolen Yaris a further 7km on Annangrove Rd, Annangrove before driving up to a police car, which officers allege he tried to break into.
“The officer on scene apprehended the man,” the spokeswoman said. “He was searched and found to be in possession of a spring-loaded flick knife and an amount of cannabis.
“He was transferred to Westmead Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing before being taken to Castle Hill Police Station for questioning.”
The man was refused bail and is due to appear at Windsor Court on October 10.
