Police officer Rodney Berkeley charged with firearm offence at Glenhaven

A 51-year-old senior constable from Sydney’s northwest is facing court after allegedly failing to keep firearms safely in Glenhaven.

Policeman Rodney John Berkeley is facing court for allegedly not storing his firearms correctly after he was arrested at Hornsby.

Sen-Constable Berkeley, who works for the Police Transport Command, was arrested after Hills police began inquiries after receiving information firearms were allegedly not being stored adhering to the Firearms Act legislation.

The Glenhaven man was arrested at Hornsby on October 12 and was taken to Castle Hill police station where he was charged with not keeping a firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited firearm.

Court documents allege Sen-Constable Berkeley had four firearms that were not kept safely at Glenhaven on October 3 about 5.20pm.

Sen-Constable Berkeley was granted conditional bail and the matter was before Parramatta Local Court on October 26.

His bail was continued with several conditions including that he must live at Woombah, more than 600km north of Sydney, and comply with an AVO.

The matter was adjourned to the same court on November 26.
