Special education will receive a multimillion-dollar cash-splash in The Hills.

Baulkham Hills state Liberal MP David Elliott revealed students at Castle Hills St Gabriel’s School would benefit from a $3.6 million investment to upgrade facilities.

Mr Elliott said the money would help fund the construction of a secondary school area to include general and specialised learning areas for hospitality, music and technical and applied studies, and withdrawal spaces.

He said it would also fund the construction of stairs, lifts, storage areas, a veranda, a covered outdoor area and student amenities including accessible amenities and building services.

“The funding will mean that St Gabriel’s School can continue to deliver this much needed upgrade,” Mr Elliot said.

“I am delighted the NSW Government is supporting this much-needed project, which will benefit the entire St Gabriel’s community.”

NSW Education Minister Rob Stokes said the investment would be delivered to St Gabriel’s School through the NSW Government’s Building Grants Assistance Scheme — working to provide funding to independent and Catholic schools to upgrade their facilities and cater for growing enrolments.

“All students deserve the very best facilities to learn and grow in, no matter what

school they go to,” Mr Stokes said.

“The grants are provided to schools with the greatest need based on a strict eligibility guidelines and administered by the Association of independent Schools NSW and

Catholic Schools NSW,” an Education Department spokesman said.

The cash-splash comes as part of major education infrastructure spending across The Hills, including upgrades to Samuel Gilbert Public, Matthew Pearce Public, as well as new schools at North Kellyville and Bella Vista.
