It may have been a massive State Election promise with flashy artist impressions and a major announcement at its future site — but the Rouse Hill Public Hospital has gone without new funding to build it in the 2019 NSW Budget.
Just weeks before the March elections, the State Government announced the site of the Rouse Hill Hospital after months of speculation surrounding potential locations of the site and promises of a $700 million hospital from the opposition — which were scoffed at during the Liberal Party announcement.
Health Minister Brad Hazzard said the hospital would be located at 768 Windsor Rd, Rouse Hill — just metres from Rouse Hill Town Centre — but would not commit to announcing funding for the future public hospital at the time.
However, following the release of the Budget by NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet on Tuesday, no new funding was announced for the much-anticipated project.
In last year’s budget, the treasurer revealed $75 million was allocated to acquire land for the Rouse Hill Public Hospital.
The funds were secured to help identify the site of the new hospital and acquire land for its construction, however, one year on and a major election promise later, no new funding has been secured.
Castle Hill state Liberal MP Ray Williams argued the hospital had received $56 million worth of funding in the newly-released budget — previously announced as part of acquisition funds.
“The $75 million last year was estimated cost for land acquisition,” he said.
“An actual $56.42 million (has been) committed in this year’s budget for land.
