The Hills Shire Council has unanimously agreed to commence the multimillion-dollar construction of a sprawling new park with state-of-the-art sporting facilities.

Samantha Riley Drive Reserve will be located between Stamford Bridge Av and Glenhaven Rd — on the northern side of Samantha Riley Dr in North Kellyville.

As previously reported by The Hills Shire Times, this reserve is one of several infrastructure investments the council has planned for this burgeoning suburb.

The addition of this green area comes after residents called for more community spaces and parks to balance out this suburb’s rapid residential growth.

The sprawling nine-hectare park will include four multipurpose rectangular turf sports fields, which can also be split into two ovals, as well as a playground, a basketball court, two cricket nets, sports field lighting and picnic facilities.

There will also be an amenities building with accessible toilets, change rooms, a kiosk, a referee room and storage, as well as a 200-space car park.

In a statement mayor Peter Gangemi praised the imminent construction of this reserve as a much-needed improvement for North Kellyville’s residents.

“This is fantastic news for our residents, especially those who are located in our growing community in North Kellyville” Mayor Gangemi said.

“This new reserve will provide residents with access to local fields where they can enjoy summer and winter sports, a children’s playground and shared pedestrian pathways and cycleways.”

“Our parks, reserves and playgrounds are more important than ever before and I’m proud that this council is working hard to deliver more of the facilities that are vital to our residents’ health and wellbeing,” Mayor Gangemi added.

Council voted to accept a multimillion-dollar construction tender for this reserve on February 8.

After this unanimous vote, construction can now commence on Samantha Riley Drive Reserve as soon as April of this year.
