Even a bleary day could not hide the magnificence of the brand new Greenway Bridge over Memorial Avenue in Kellyville, unveiled today.

The $3.77million dollar project links Pellizer Boulevard to Thomas Boultan Circuit Reserve and forms part of the bigger Greenway cycle link between Bella Vista Farm and Rouse Hill Town Centre.

The bridge spans almost 50m in length, providing a safe link for pedestrians and cyclists to use when crossing Memorial Avenue.

Baulkham Hills MP David Elliott described it as an “exciting time for the people of Kellyville”.

But he acknowledged residents had been let down by the length of time it had taken to upgrade the busy Memorial Avenue - from two lanes to four lanes - and said he was determined for that project to be fast-tracked.

“Nine years ago we got the design for the Memorial Avenue upgrade,” he said.

“Since then we have had up to 100 people a week moving into Kellyville and I see kids every week playing chicken trying to get to the bus stop.”

Preliminary work is expected to start next month, but the duration of the upgrade is another three years.

The local MP wants that truncated and says that will be his next task as the local member.

“The growth in that area justifies fast-tracking that project,” he said.

Mayor Michelle Byrne said she supported the local member’s call.

“It is a rural road with a bit of tar on it,” she said.

“The growth around it is incredible....it is used by 30 000 vehicles each day.”

“It is incredibly dangerous and it has got to the point where it needs to be done as soon as possible.”
