A savage case of mistaken identity has left a 22-year-old man with a “busted lip” after a stranger allegedly assaulted him at a busy shopping centre in northwest Sydney.

Andrzej Domeradzki had picked up food for a friend when he was allegedly “randomly assaulted” by a man on the street outside the Westpac Bank at Rouse Hill Town Centre on Saturday afternoon.

Mr Domeradzki said he was momentarily knocked out after police allege the man grabbed his shirt and “slammed” him to the tarmac behind his car, parked on Civic Way.

“My left temple got the impact. I was unconscious for a few seconds then I woke up to him choking me with his left hand ... and punching me with his right hand,” he said.

Mr Domeradzki said he did not fight back because he was “in shock” by the sudden attack.

The 22-year-old Beaumont Hills man said he gained some strength to push his hand off his throat and ask why the man was attacking him.

“He replied: ‘You’re stalking my 16-year-old daughter’. I said ‘No, I just do food deliveries for Doordash’,” he said.

“Looks like he got the wrong man.”

Mr Domeradzki said the man then walked off and incorrectly told bystanders that he was “stalking” his teenage daughter.

He said although the centre was “busy”, no one stepped in to help him or stop the alleged attack.

He reported the incident to security when he went back inside to replace the cereal and yogurt that had been spilled over the road. Security reportedly assisted in reporting the incident to local police.

The Hills Shire Times approached Rouse Hill Town Centre for comment. It is understood CCTV footage of the incident was provided to police to support their inquiries.

A NSW Police spokeswoman confirmed investigations into the alleged assault were underway.

As police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, anyone who may be able to assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
