TRAFFIC and parking around Cherrybrook Village shopping centre will be overhauled as part of a $37 million refurbishment that will also increase the centre’s size by a third.

Centre owner Mirvac has lodged a development application with Hornsby Council for the proposal, which would increase the centre’s retail floor space from 9636 sq m to 14,097 sq m.

This will be achieved by creating an additional level on top of the exisiting centre.

A new major supermarket will join the centre, as will two major retailers, a number of smaller specialty retailers and a gym. The childcare centre and medical centre will also be rebuilt.

In a statement to the Hills Shire Times, Mirvac said: “The development will also seek to realign and expand the current retail and food offering and to ensure Cherrybrook Village continues to meet the local communities’ desire for premium fresh food and convenience”.

The existing car park has long been a headache for locals and shoppers.

The redevelopment will also add 196 extra car parking spaces, of which 224 spaces will be under cover with a new basement carpark level to be created.

The existing roundabout access at Kenburn Drive will be retained but will be complimented by a new entry/exit further along Shepherds Drive to “address queuing impacts at the existing roundabout”, according to the proposal.

The layout of the car park will also be altered to create better traffic flow.

A series of new pedestrian priority crossings are proposed to improve access for pedestrians.

Cherrybrook Village centre manager Natasha Storch said: “We are excited to be lodging a DA for the proposed development of Cherrybrook Village to enhance the overall customer experience.

“The application is in response to key research finding into our local trade area and customer feedback.”

The first stage of the proposed redevelopment will commence in early 2017, pending approval, with an immediate focus on the centre’s carpark.

It is proposed the development will take place in two stages.
