Cherrybrook Technology High School scores $7m upgrade in state budget
CHERRYBROOK High School, the largest secondary school in NSW, has scored a $7m upgrade to cater for its growing population.
CHERRYBROOK High School, the largest secondary school in NSW, has scored a $7m upgrade to cater for its growing population.
A three-storey building with 18 classrooms will be built at the school after money was set aside in the NSW state budget for public school infrastructure across the state.
The school’s principal Gary Johnson said new permanent classrooms would replace demountable structures currently on the site.
“We have worked on upgrading the school for a number of years now, so we are very happy that will go ahead,” he said.
“It will make an enormous difference to us.”
The Minister for Education, Adrian Piccoli, visited the school last Thursday to make the funding announcement.
He said the upgrade would also include refurbishment of the school’s existing classrooms.
“Planning for the new building and refurbishments is underway, with construction to begin once this process has been completed,” the minister said.
“ The new facilities are expected to be ready for students and teachers in early 2018.”
Member for Epping Damien Tudehope said student numbers at Cherrybrook Technology High School had almost doubled in the past 20 years due to its popularity.
“These new flexible facilities will support teachers as they deliver 21st-century learning,” he said.
Mr Tudehope said the additional classrooms would also address an expected growth in enrolments.
“The works will also include a connected open space renovation, creating a welcoming and accessible school with indoor and outdoor teaching and learning spaces,” he said.
“Once completed, a number of the on-site demountables are expected to be removed to create more outdoor space.”
