Cherrybrook Technology High School students have swapped their comfy beds for cardboard boxes — sleeping rough for a night to raise support for people at risk of being homeless.
Almost 100 students and staff took part in the Sleep Out event in the school hall last week while raising $6800.
Hundreds of cardboard boxes were donated for the event and students and staff converted them into makeshift shelters.
“On Friday night, 86 students and eight teachers spent the night in the school hall, sleeping out with only cardboard boxes for shelter,” teacher Emma Campbell said.
“The event was raising money and awareness for Stepping Stone House, a small not-for-profit organisation based in Dulwich Hill.”
The organisation provides housing for youth at risk of becoming homeless and provides other support services.

Plenty of students decorated their boxes with fairy lights and other decorations and enjoyed a breakfast together following the sleep out.
“Students also generously left behind donations of warm clothes and blankets for the Beanie and Blanket appeal … for those sleeping rough.”
It is the second year running the school has taken part in the fund raising event.
