MORE than $850,000 of cannabis was wiped off the market in a dramatic raid in which police said they found a 26-year-old man holding 11 small cannabis plants in boxes.
Police allege they found 246 cannabis plants when they swooped on an Edensor Park home at 4pm yesterday.
Officers say they found the man with the plants at a Leonello Pl residence.
The man, who police said is an illegal immigrant, was taken to Fairfield police station and charged with cultivating cannabis for commercial purposes, supplying prohibited plants, possessing prohibited plants, possessing prohibited drugs and using electricity without authorisation.
He was refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court today.
The Wetherill Park Region Enforcement Squad has seized hundreds of millions of dollars of cannabis from hydroponic houses since they established Strike Force Zambesi seven years ago.
Officers seized 111 cannabis plants worth $429,000 and 12kg of cannabis head from properties in Bankstown West and Warwick Farm in just one day in June last year.
Squad Commander Gus Viera said at the time community vigilance played a huge role in stamping out local hydroponic houses.

By November 2017, the strike force had seized more than 61,000 cannabis plants and 962kg of dried cannabis worth almost $189m.
More than 216 people have been charged with hundreds of offences due to the strike force’s activities.
