POLICE have uncovered a massive illegal hydroponic house next door to a southwest Sydney primary school.
Fifteen officers stormed the commercial cannabis growing house in the early hours of Friday morning, in a high visibility operation next to Bankstown West Public School.
No one was present at the premises at the time of the raid and police are yet to confirm the number of plants inside the property.
The electricity must be stabilised before the operation to remove the plants can continue.
The Education Department has been contacted for comment.
Police also raided another hydroponic house in Warwick Farm at the same time.
Both raids are part of NSW Police’s Strike Force Zambesi, which was established in 2011 to target “hydro houses” where commercial quantities of cannabis are grown illegally using high-powered light bulbs.
Over the six years of the operation, police have seized 58,000 cannabis plants and wiped $162 million of cannabis from the market.
More to come.
