Baby, it’s cold outside – but that will be to Fairfield’s advantage when Aquatopia freezes over this winter.
Fairfield Council is splashing $50,000 on the city’s beloved water park to transform the summery jaunt into a winter wonderland called Icetopia.
The water park will be frozen to create a 250 sqm outdoor ice-skating rink, complete with magical lights and entertainment to enchant local residents day and night.
Mayor Frank Carbone said the council was bringing the mystique of winter right to the city’s doorstep for a cold season filled with fun and laughter.
“Many in our community want an alpine winter, but don’t want to deal with crowded ski fields,” Mr Carbone said.
“I want families to create precious lifelong memories without the cost.”
More than 60,000 people visited Aquatopia last summer, which provided families with affordable fun throughout the long hot days.
“Icetopia will add another dimension to our city, providing unique entertainment for residents and visitors through the busy school holiday period.”
Icetopia will be open from 11am to 8.30pm daily, with six hour-long skating sessions available every day of the July school holidays.
Tickets, including skate hire, will be $10 for one person, $15 for two and $20 for three family members.
Sessions will be limited to 100 people each.
The council will fund Icetopia from the General Rates and Revenue budget.
