RACING water slides, a carpark in Cabramatta and infrastructure upgrades are among a lengthy list of budget commitments from Fairfield Council.
Councillors endorsed the Draft Operational Plan for 2018 and 2019 at last week’s council meeting.
Proposed major projects include a further expansion for Aquatopia Water Park at Prairiewood Leisure Centre.
The proposal discussed at February’s council meeting included $2.16 million for racing water slides and a wave pool at the extremely popular family destination.
The draft plan also proposes a new carpark on Hughes St in Cabramatta to cope with intense demand for on- and off-street parking.
The council also plans to widen Smithfield Rd to four lanes as part of infrastructure planning for the future Western Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek.
Mayor Frank Carbone encouraged residents to review the draft plan, which will be on public exhibition until Monday, April 30.
“While delivering all this and much more, the council will also remain in a strong financial position with a draft budgeted operating surplus of $3.9 million for the next year,” Mr Carbone said.
The draft plan also includes the redevelopment of Fairfield Showground as a regional multicultural and sporting complex.
Other financial commitments include $14 million for road upgrades, $1 million for town centre upgrades, and $11.7 million for children and family services such as childcare.
