Five robberies, more than $40,000 stolen

A man has faced court on charges related to a series of robberies across southwest Sydney. He allegedly stole more than $40,000.

A western Sydney man is alleged to have stolen more than $40,000 after robbing a sports club, a pizza shop, a liquor store and a service station.

Aleksander Djokic, a 24-year-old from Edensor Park, was arrested on June 5 over his alleged involvement in five armed robberies since early April, netting a total of $42,800.

Mr Djokic did not apply for bail at a hearing the next day at Fairfield Local Court. He will remain in police custody until his trial begins in eight weeks.

Most of the loot allegedly came from the earliest robbery on record. At about 11.45pm on April 7, it is alleged Mr Djokic robbed Bonnyrigg Sports Club, threatening two employees with a gun before leaving with $39,000, according to court filings.

Two weeks later, it is alleged he robbed Metro Service Station in Bonnyrigg – twice. He allegedly used a shortened firearm during the first robbery at 3.30am on April 21, and a long barrel rifle in the second robbery at 4.30am on April 30, according to court filings.

The robberies cost the service station a total of $1800.

Five days later on May 5, Domino’s Pizza in Edensor Park was robbed. It is alleged Mr Djokic was armed with a gun when he jumped the counter and threatened the two male employees at about 10.15pm. When they fled to safety, he allegedly left empty-handed.

Then, less than two weeks after the fourth robbery, it is alleged Mr Djokic used a gun to rob a local liquor store. He is said to have stolen $2000 from Liquor Stax Bonnyrigg just before 8pm on May 16.

Police made an appeal to the public for information to do with the robbery at Domino’s Pizza on June 5. They arrested Mr Djokic at an Edensor Park a few hours later at about midday.

He was charged with four counts of robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, assault with intent to rob while armed with dangerous weapon, and two counts of possess shortened firearm without authority.

Another man was also arrested. Dejan Josipovic, a 26-year-old from Canley Vale, was charged with five gun-related offences and presented to Liverpool Local Court on June 6.

During the arrests, police seized three firearms across both homes. They are being forensically examined.

Mr Djokic’s next hearing is scheduled for July 29 at Fairfield Local Court.
