A father who yelled he would rape another man’s wife was repeatedly punched in the face and hit with a metal pole following accusations of playground bullying.

Akil Aldibaabu, 51 and his wife ​​Natasha Nicole Brien, 41, both appeared at Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to affray following an incident at Fairfield Heights Park on January 10.

Agreed facts state a woman was with her children at the park when a dispute occurred in relation to some of the children at the playground.

The woman subsequently got into a heated argument with Brien before she called her ex-husband.

Aldibaabu ran out of the house and started mouthing offensive remarks at the woman’s ex-husband and jumped the fence before erupting in a wild brawl.

“Aldibaabu replied to the exchange by striking the man’s face multiple times and pressing his body on the man along the fence,” the facts state.

“He placed the man in a frontwards headlock and dragged him down to the ground while maintaining a grip on his neck and the man’s left eye was badly swollen and was bleeding from his nose as a result of the strikes.”

Brien struck the man with a railing pole and left a laceration to the back of his head.

Facts state police found the man “bleeding profusely” and his “left eye was heavily swollen and his eye socket was red from the strikes”.

When speaking with police, Aldibaabu admitted to jumping the fence to protect his family.

“Aldibaabu advised that he was provoked by the man who challenged him to fight and saying that ‘he will rape his wife’,” police facts state.

The pair’s lawyer, Fadi Abbas said his client admitted he “could have gone back into the home and retreated” but said he was “sworn at and threatened”.

Magistrate Stuart Devine told the parents they should “be ashamed”.

“It was an argument between kids and you are the responsible adults who are meant to deal with the situation as responsible adults and you failed miserably,” he said.

Brien was sentenced to a community correction order for 12 months and fined $1000.

Aldibaabu was also sentenced to a community correction order for 12 months and fined $1500.
