Bonnyrigg pedestrian hit by Subaru dies, police launch appeal to ID him

The identity of an elderly man who died after being struck by a car overnight has police baffled. They have released footage in the hope of identifying him.

A pedestrian walking the streets of Bonnyrigg was struck by a car and killed in an accident, sparking a police search to help identify the victim and notify his family.

The man was walking on Montgomery Road at about 5am on February 19 when he was struck by a Subaru and suffered serious head injuries.

He was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition, but he died shortly after.

The 36-year-old driver of the Subaru was taken to Fairfield Hospital for mandatory testing. Police said they are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

They said the victim did not have identification on him and have released CCTV footage as part of a public appeal.

The deceased man has been described as being Asian in appearance, aged in his 70s or 80s, about 160-170cm in height, of thin build and has grey hair.

He is shown wearing a black shirt and long pants, black shoes and a black cap.

Police urge anyone with information about the man’s identity or the crash to contact crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.
