Wasim Samman faces Burwood Court charged over alleged violent attack

A man has fronted court after a teen was allegedly attack by four men while he was sitting in his car in southwest Sydney. It’s alleged the group also smashed his windshield and slashed his tyres.

A man has faced court over the alleged violent attack of a teenager with a gun-shaped lighter, a cricket bat and a knife, while he was cowering in his car.

Wasim Samman, 26 of South Granville, faced Burwood Local Court on Thursday charged with wounding, drug possession and damaging property.

It is alleged Samman was one of four people to attack 19-year-old Ali Mehrez on September 29, while he was sitting in his parked Honda Accord on Namoi Lane, Georges Hall.

According to police, the four men were armed with a cigarette lighter in the shape of a pistol, a small bladed knife with a black handle, and a cricket bat.

It is alleged they assaulted Mr Mehrez, causing cuts to his right shoulder and left forearm.

Police said the group also slashed the tyres of the red Accord - two were allegedly damaged by Samman - and used the bat to smash its windscreen.

Mr Mehrez managed to escape by driving off and taking himself to hospital.

Police arrested Samman in a taxi in Berala on February 19, four months after the alleged attack.

Officers searched him and allegedly found cannabis, cocaine and $1175.

He was in custody when he appeared at Burwood Local Court on February 20, still wearing the black Adidas hoodie from the time of his arrest.

Defence lawyer Gazi Abbas asked Magistrate Susan Horan to adjourn the two matters; those related to the alleged attack and those allegedly related to the possession of drugs.

There was no application for bail and no pleas have been entered.

Samman is scheduled to appear in Burwood Local Court on March 12 on charges of deal in the proceeds of crime and two counts of possess prohibited drug.

He will also appear on April 16 at the same court on charges of wounding person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and destroy or damage property.
