A learner driver faces almost a dozen offences after police found him sleeping in a car with guns, drugs, silencers and ammunition, a court has heard.

Roth Mony, a 35-year-old from Fairfield West, did not appear in Fairfield Local Court where the matter was heard on February 19. He was not required as his lawyer asked for an adjournment.

The L-plate driver was arrested yesterday morning after falling asleep behind the wheel of a car parked at Bulls Rd, Wakeley.

Residents contacted police to wake him up, but the officers from Fairfield Command allegedly spotted drug paraphernalia and decided to conduct a search.

The police allege they found a bag containing a sawn off rifle, a sawn off .22, two silencers, ammunition and – what is suspected to be – the drug GHB.

Detectives from the Wetherill Park Enforcement Squad continued investigating following Mony’s arrest.

They conducted searches of homes in Wakeley and Mt Pritchard, where they found another firearm and more ammunition.

Mony was charged with nine offences; eight relating to the possession of firearms and ammunition, and one for a learner not being accompanied by a driver.

His lawyer did not file an application for bail at his court hearing and he remains in custody.

Mony’s case will return to Fairfield Local Court in a fortnight on March 4, 2020.
