A community left devastated after the heartbreaking deaths of the Shorey brothers in central west NSW will finally say goodbye to their “beautiful and handsome sons”.

NSW crash kills two children, injures three others

A family and close-knit community in mourning after two boys were killed in a horror crash two months ago will gather to say a final goodbye on Friday.

Shane, 7 and Sheldon, 6, Shorey were walking along Warne Street in Wellington on January 5 when an allegedly unlicensed driver ploughed into them.

Three other people, including their mother Shayleen Frail were injured in the crash which devastated the Wellington community and shocked the nation.

A Supreme Court battle between Ms Frail and the boys father Joseph Shorey, to determine if the boys would be buried or cremated, was finalised last week and paved the way for final funeral arrangements to be made.

Justice John Sackar ruled in favour of Ms Frail and granted her wish to have the boys buried together in Wellington, despite Mr Shorey residing in Emerald in Queensland and wanting the boys cremated with their ashes divided.

In a joint Facebook post, Ms Frail and Mr Shorey announced the funeral details.

They said “our two beautiful and handsome sons Shane Steven Robert Shorey aged 7, turned 8 in heaven, and Sheldon Paul Ross Shorey, aged 6, turned 7 in heaven, will be held on Friday March 5”.

“The service will commence at 11am at Pioneer Oval in Wellington,” Ms Frail and Mr Shorey wrote.

“I encourage everyone who attends to wear their footy jerseys or colours of your own team. If you don’t follow the football then please wear something colourful as we want to celebrate Shane and Sheldon’s short lives and remember just how much they lit up our lives.”

The boys will be buried together at Wellington cemetery after the service and Ms Frail said a wake would follow at Pioneer Oval after the burial.

Before the funeral, Ms Fraiul said family members were invited to do a lap of honour up William Street in Wellington, the place where Shane and Sheldon spent much of their lives with their grandparents.

The lap of honour will commence at 9.45am.

Jacob Donn, the 25-year-old Wellington man accused of driving the car which killed the Shorey boys, remains remanded in custody after he was arrested on the night of the crash.

Police charged him with a sting of offences including dangerous driving causing death.

Mr Donn has entered no pleas and his case returns to court in March.
