Stuart Walsh pleads guilty to bottle opener assault

A Dubbo man left a woman with blood pouring out of her eyebrow after she made a comment about his father.

A 27-year-old Dubbo man who used a bottle opener to hit his partner in the face has pleaded guilty to two assault charges in court.

Stuart William Walsh was sitting around a table drinking with his partner and another woman on the morning of October 18 when a fight broke out.

According to court documents, Walsh’s partner said his father made her feel uncomfortable and he took offence.

Walsh picked up a bottle opener attached to a key ring, flicked his hand and struck the woman’s eyebrow with the bottle opener.

After the woman’s eyebrow started to bleed, Walsh grabbed a handful of her hair and held her against a wall.

The woman went inside to wash her eyebrow and get away from Walsh, the documents state.

He stayed outside demanding she apologise for remarks she made about his father and when the woman went back outside to do that, Walsh grabbed her by the hair again.

Terrified, the woman locked herself in the house before police were called and Walsh was arrested.

In Dubbo Local Court, Walsh pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault charges.

The court heard that since the assaults took place Walsh had engaged with alcohol treatment program Lives Lived Well and the Inerrelate counselling service.

Magistrate Philip Stewart adjourned Walsh’s case to December when he is due to be sentenced.
