Shane Glynn: Dubbo coach’s child sex talk case changes

A former Dubbo junior sports coach allegedly engaged in sexual conversations with someone he thought was a child.

Police have withdrawn charges previously laid against a 47-year-old former Dubbo junior sports coach accused of using a service to have illegal conversations with an undercover cop he thought was a child and replaced them with other charges.

In July, Shane Thomas Glynn was charged with using a carriage service to send indecent material to an undercover cop who police alleged had posed as a 13-year-old child.

Mr Glynn, a former manager of the BCF store in Dubbo, was also charged with using a carriage service to groom a person under the age of 16 years for sex.

He hasn’t entered any pleas and in Dubbo Local Court on Wednesday, police advised that both charges had been withdrawn and replaced with two fresh charges.

Court documents reveal Mr Glynn has now been charged with using a carriage service to engage in sexual activity with a child who was an undercover police officer pretending to be aged under 16.

A new charge of using a carriage service to procure a person aged under 16 years for sexual activity was also laid against Mr Glynn.

No pleas have been entered to the fresh charges.

Magistrate Gary Wilson accepted further discussions between Mr Glynn’s lawyer and a Crown Prosecutor needed to take place before pleas could be entered.

The case returns to court in January.

Mr Glynn was previously coach of the Westside Panthers Football Club under-13 boy’s team and a supporter of the Dubbo Basketball Association’s youth sides.
