A convicted paedophile has pleaded guilty to two counts of breaching a child protection prohibition order after he was caught hanging around a popular public pool and two parks during the school holidays.

Dubbo man Christopher Eakin and three friends travelled 34 kilometres to the small town of Narromine on January 19, court documents revealed.

Police said the 37-year-old former Wollongong resident was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a victim under 16 in 1999.

In December 2020, a court imposed a five-year child protection prohibition order on Eakin and it required him to stay away from places frequented by children.

Police said the order was breached when Eakin drove a Holden Commodore to Rotary Park in Narromine and spent 25 minutes in the northeast corner of the park, close to where a kids playground was located.

Eakin breached the order again after he left the park and stood 100 to 200 metres from the Narromine Aquatic Centre until 4.18pm.

For another 10 minutes afterwards, police said Eakin stopped across the road from Dundas Park, which is located next to the aquatic centre.

According to police, Eakin was fitted with an ankle bracelet which tracked his movements while he was in Narromine.

Eakin’s breaches of the protection order were reported to police by a Community Corrections case officer who Eakin reported his location to at 4pm.

About 5.55pm, Eakin went to Dubbo police station where he was charged.

Police said Eakin claimed he stopped in front of the pool for a short time to drop his friends off and pick them up.

Eakin said he was not paying attention to his surrounds.

Magistrate Greg Gogin refused bail on January 20 and Eakin has been remanded in custody since.

In Dubbo Local Court on Wednesday Eakin appeared via video link from Wellington Correctional Centre to enter guilty pleas.

Magistrate Gary Wilson ordered a sentencing assessment report and set March 24 as the date Eakin would be sentenced.
