Orange: Two men charged after alleged Algona Crescent break-in

A man’s alleged break-in went south when someone inside the home allegedly stabbed him repeatedly shortly after he entered the dwelling. Here’s what happened.

A man’s alleged break-in in the state’s Central West went awry when someone inside the home allegedly stabbed him repeatedly shortly after he entered the dwelling.

Police allege a 20-year-old forced his way into an Algona Crescent, Orange home about 11.10pm on Friday, before a fight broke out between the accused home invader and an associate of the resident inside the dwelling.

When officers arrived, they found the alleged intruder suffering multiple stab wounds, while the 19-year-old associate of the resident suffered injuries to his hands and face.

The 22-year-old female resident inside the home was uninjured. She has not been charged with any wrongdoing.

Both the alleged home invader and the 19-year-old were treated at the scene by emergency services, before being taken to Orange Hospital in serious, but stable conditions.

Police believe the pair were known to each other.

Following investigations, officers arrested both men at Orange Police Station on Monday.

The 20-year-old was charged with aggravated break and enter, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and breaching an AVO.

He was refused bail, appearing in Orange Local Court on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the 19-year-old – who was accused of stabbing the alleged intruder – was charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was granted conditional bail and will appear in Orange Local Court on April 17.

Police said inquiries into the alleged incident were ongoing.
