Two 17-year-old boys are in custody and a girl, 13, has already faced a children’s court, after a Toyota Kluger was stolen not once but twice in Dubbo last week and then used in a spree of wild break ins.
Police received reports a Toyota Kluger was stolen from a home on Lago Circuit in Dubbo between 11.50pm on Wednesday, May 22 and 10.55am on Thursday, May 23.
The car was later located on Alcheringa St and seized by police for forensic examination.
Incredibly, police will allege the same Toyota Kluger was stolen about midnight on Saturday from a holding yard and used in seven break-ins, two pursuits and rammed a fence between Saturday and Monday morning.
The seven break-ins occurred at businesses on Erskine, Macquarie and Bourke streets, Commercial Ave, Hopkins Pde, Yarrandale and Minore roads, and Douglas Mawson Drive.
Orana Mid-Western Police District investigators commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incidents.
The Kluger was then located abandoned on Alcheringa St, Dubbo, around 2.30am on Monday, May 27.
On Tuesday, at 12.50am, three people forced entry into a business on Whylandra St, and allegedly attempted to steal cigarettes before fleeing on foot.
A short time later, the group was outside a home on Bunglegumbie Rd, Dubbo, when the occupant — a 26-year-old man — approached the group.
A member of the group threatened the man with a knife before he retreated inside his home.
Entry was forced into the home where the group stole his car keys and a Mercedes C250.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle on Whylandra St, around 1.30am, and when it failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit was terminated a short time later because of safety concerns.
The vehicle was located soon after abandoned on Alfred St, where it was seized for forensic examination.
A 13-year-old girl was arrested and charged with being carried in a stolen car before being granted conditional bail by a children’s court.
Following inquiries, investigators attended a home in Dubbo around 2.40pm on Wednesday and arrested a 17-year-old boy.
He was taken to Dubbo Police Station and charged with two counts of being carried in a stolen vehicle, three counts of aggravated break and enter with company and five counts of aggravated break and enter in company to steal.
He was also charged with five counts of wearing a face mask with an intent to commit indictable offences, one count of destroying property in company with fire and a breach of bail.
The teenager was also charged with traffic, property and fraud-related offences allegedly committed in Nyngan earlier this month.
Following further inquiries, another 17-year-old boy was arrested on Thursday morning and taken to Dubbo Police Station.
He was charged with two counts of being carried in a stolen vehicle, three counts of aggravated break and enter with company with an intention to steal and five counts of aggravated break and enter in company to steal.
He was also charged with six counts of wearing a face mask with an intent to commit an indictable offence, one count of aggravated break and enter to commit a serious indictable offence while armed and a breach of bail.
Both teens were refused bail and will appear at a Children’s Court on Thursday.
Further arrested are expected.
