Joshua Majdalani pleads not guilty to drug supply charges

Police allege a Wellington jail Corrective Services officer supplied cocaine and steroids, and was paid to bring drugs, tobacco and a mobile phone to inmates.

A Dubbo man currently suspended from duties as a Corrective Services officer at Wellington Jail has pleaded not guilty to drug supply and corruption charges.

Police allege Joshua Travers Majdalani received three payments worth a total of $1400 from Wellington Jail inmates or their associates while he worked there in October 2019.

According to court documents, the 28-year-old allegedly received the payments in exchange for the introduction and supply of drugs, a mobile phone and tobacco.

Mr Majdalani has pleaded not guilty to being an agent corruptly receiving a benefit and other cocaine and steroid supply charges.

He is alleged to have supplied 26.1 grams of cocaine at Geurie in May 2020 and 8.59 grams of stanozolol, and 3.37 grams of oxymetholone, at Wellington in October 2019.

Mr Majdalani was also found in possession of a Smith and Wesson replica firearm and he has pleaded guilty to possessing an unauthorised firearm and possessing a prohibited weapon without a permit.

In Dubbo Local Court on Wednesday Mr Majdalani’s lawyer Matthew Quill said 11 witnesses would likely be called to give evidence when a hearing into the allegations takes place.

Magistrate Theresa Hamilton set a date in June for a two-day hearing.

Mr Majdalani has been suspended from his duties while his case is before the court.
