A 19-year-old Dubbo man who spent more than a month behind bars on remand after he was accused of glassing another man has been granted strict Supreme Court bail.

Police allege Jeremiah Chandler and about 15 other people were gathered at the Nyngan Showground in the early hours of February 28 when they came across a 33-year-old man who was walking home from an 18th birthday party.

After the man said “what’s going on here” to the group, Mr Chandler is alleged to have hit the man in the face with a glass bottle.

The man was taken to Dubbo Base Hospital to have his injuries treated and is understood to have made a full recovery.

Mr Chandler was later charged with one count of reckless wounding in company which he has now pleaded not guilty to.

In early March, Dubbo Local Court magistrate Brian van Zuylen refused Mr Chandler’s application for bail.

On April 15, Supreme Court Justice Stephen Campbell granted Mr Chandler strict conditional bail.

Those conditions include that he report daily to Dubbo police, not take any illegal substance and abide by an 8pm to 5am curfew unless in the company of his mother or attending employment.

On Wednesday, Mr Chandler appeared in-person at Dubbo Local Court where his case was mentioned briefly.

Defence lawyer Jai Silkman told the court more time was needed to consider the police case and organise a response.

He said up to 10 witnesses were expected to be called to give evidence in a future hearing.

The case returns to court on May 26.
