Hayden Storch: Dubbo man charged with driving with drugs in his blood

A Dubbo man said he had snorted multiple drugs on the weekend before he was caught committing his second major driving offence in recent years.

Australia's growing drug crisis

A Dubbo man who snorted cocaine and meth during a weekend binge has been caught committing a second major driving offence within the last five years.

Hayden Storch, 27, was arrested by police in December last year following a random breath test which returned a negative result for alcohol but a positive result for cocaine and methamphetamine, the drug ice.

Documents tendered to Dubbo Local Court state Storch was charged with driving with illicit drugs in his system two days after the weekend.

He was taken to Dubbo Police Station for further testing and a forensic laboratory later confirmed the result.

“In relation to the taking of drugs the accused stated, ‘I took drugs on the weekend (and) snorted it,” Police facts state.

The court was told by Storch’s lawyer that the offence was only detected through the random test, and was not due to an adverse manner of driving.

The crime was charged as a second offence, after the court heard Storch had previously pleaded guilty to mid-range drink driving within the preceding five years.

Magistrate Theresa Hamilton did not record a conviction after Storch pleaded guilty to driving with an illicit drug in his system, acknowledging days had passed, between his drug use and the breath test.

She disqualified him from driving for six months, backdated to the day he was charged.

The former Dubbo College student listed one of his favourite quotes on Facebook as “ain‘t nothin but a peanut”.

He also reshared a post which read, “F*** being the sensible c**t on a night out, line the f****n shots up and a cheers to me for being the liability”.
