A man wanted over a public place shooting – where a rifle was allegedly fired into a car carrying four people – has been dramatically arrested following an alleged 40km police chase through parts of the Central West.
Tyler Evans, 20, faced Parramatta Local Court on Friday where he faced seven charges, including illegally possessing and firing a firearm in a public place, car theft, leading police on a pursuit and driving without holding a licence.
He was not required to enter any pleas and was refused bail.
Police said Evans had been wanted over a public place shooting in Dubbo on June 20 when he allegedly took them on a chase between Gulargambone and Coonamble on Wednesday night.
Police said officers had attempted to stop a vehicle allegedly travelling at excessive speed on the Castlereagh Highway near Gulargambone about 11pm on Wednesday.
When the vehicle failed to stop, a pursuit was allegedly initiated.
Police allege that during the pursuit, the occupants of the vehicle shone a spotlight at the pursuing police car and reached speeds of up to 160km/h.
Road spikes were used near Coonamble to effectively bring the vehicle to a stop.
According to police, the occupants of the car then fled on foot.
Police arrested Evans, who they allege was the driver, following a short foot pursuit, while the second man remained outstanding on Friday.
He was taken to Coonamble police station, where inquiries revealed he was wanted in relation to an alleged public place shooting in Dubbo on Friday.
In that incident, police allege Evans fired a rifle into a vehicle containing four people known to him before fleeing the scene in another vehicle, which had been taken without the owner’s consent.
No one was injured.
Evans will face Dubbo Local Court on July 9.
