Fast food lovers in Dubbo and western NSW will soon have a celeb-worthy new option to tempt their tastebuds, with construction of a new Carl’s Jr store to get underway in coming weeks.

The first burgers at the popular American fast food giant’s new Dubbo location will be flipped in the first half of 2021 on the corner of Cobra and Hawthorn streets.

It’ll be the first Carl’s Jr to open in western NSW and managing director of the CJ’s Group Domit Makhoul has confirmed 60 staff will be recruited to run the business.

“For many of our new crew this will be their first job and we are proud to be supporting local jobs,” he said.

A development application to allow Carl’s Jr to open has been lodged with Dubbo Regional Council and if Mayor Ben Shields’s reaction to the burger chains plans is anything to go by, approval will be granted.

“With a population of around 50,000 and a wider market of up to 100,000 potential customers, it’s an easy decision for any business,” Cr Shields said of the decision to choose Dubbo as a new Carl’s Jr location.

“It’s no secret Dubbo has taken a retail hit over the last few months with some major fashion outlets deciding to close.

“The fact that a major international chain such as Carl’s Jr has decided to come to Dubbo should be very reassuring for our community.”

Cr Shield said the Carl’s Jr announcement showed Dubbo could compete with other regional cities like Bathurst and Orange to attract high profile businesses.

“The proof is in the pudding that this council is open for business.

“I am determined to make sure that Dubbo is the premier inland destination for visitors and has a large diverse retail and hospitality sector in order to keep us competitive.”

A campaign to recruit Carl’s Jr staff is expected to begin early 2021.

Carl’s Jr operates two other stores in NSW at Bateau Bay and Glendale on the Central Coast.
