Brianna Meizer: Wellington woman sentenced for drug supply

A mum-turned dealer was busted after she was overheard discussing the price of drugs and how to smuggle them into jail.

A Wellington woman who got caught up in a major criminal group which sold ice across western NSW has been spared more time behind bars after a court heard she kicked her drug habit.

Police charged Brianna Meizer, 28, in June last year after conversations she had with fellow members of the group were intercepted and revealed her role in the drug dealing syndicate.

In the weeks prior to her arrest, a series of high profile raids were carried out at homes in Wellington and in western Sydney, as Strike Force Pinnacle detectives determined to smash the syndicate honed in on alleged senior members of the group.

Court documents released after Meizer pleaded guilty to supplying 8.25 grams of methylamphetamine and participating in a criminal group included details of the phone taps which brought her undone.

While Meizer was at the TAB in June 2019 she was asked to supply more ice, which she did to a woman for $300.

Several weeks later, after the alleged kingpin of the group Meizer was part of reached out to her, she supplied another 3 grams of ice for $200.

In other phone recordings police listened to, Meizer was heard discussing the price of bupe strips and ways they could be smuggled into a jail.

At Meizer’s sentencing hearing in Dubbo Local Court on Tuesday, defence lawyer Rachel Waugh said Meizer’s was a mother of two who was supported by her own parents.

Mrs Waugh said Meizer had penned a letter of apology to the court and completed a drug addiction program.

“She has continued the abstinence of the illicit substances,” Mrs Waugh said.

“Ms Meizer spent a period of time in custody, some four months and 24 days and has been on onerous bail conditions. She experienced significant hardship during that period of time … it occurred during that COVID period, she did not see her children.

“At the time of the offending conduct, Ms Meizer was someone who was heavily involved in a drug addiction herself.”

Mrs Waugh said Meizer had a criminal record, which included a prior conviction for prohibited drug possession.

Magistrate Theresa Hamilton said “substantial steps have been taken towards rehabilitation” by Meizer.

“There is no doubt that the defendant actively took part in this group and was actively involved in the ongoing supply of drugs,” magistrate Hamilton said.

A sentencing assessment report tendered in court revealed Meizer’s criminal history was “limited”, magistrate Hamilton said.

“She’s been assessed at a medium risk of reoffending.

“The sentencing assessment report also refers to the alleged influence of her then partner at the time.”

Meizer was convicted and sentenced to a 12-month term of imprisonment, to be served in the community as an intensive corrections order.

She was also ordered to do 90 hours of community service work.
