A man who police allege to have murdered a 43-year-old man by stomping on his head while repeatedly calling him a paedophile fronted court on Thursday.

Brendan Doolan, 32, appeared via audio visual link in Dubbo Local Court from Macquarie Correctional Centre in Wellington where the matter was submitted to the Supreme Court in Sydney for arraignment.

Doolan has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge following the death of Nowra man Bradley Dixon, who died on a Johnson St footpath in Forbes in the early hours of January 23 2021, days after he moved from Nowra to the regional town.

According to documents tendered to court, it is alleged that at the time of Dixon’s death, he had been convicted of a sexual offence against a child in 2008 which Doolan was made aware of.

In April last year, a court heard that police will allege Dixon was “lured” from the home he was staying at by Doolan following a night drinking.

Police allege Doolan repeatedly assaulted Dixon, calling him a “f***ing paedophile”.

Dixon allegedly managed to get himself back inside the house, collecting his things before attempting to leave the property. But as he tried to leave, police allege that Mr Doolan began attacking him again, stomping on his head and leaving him unconscious.

Doolan was arrested and charged with murder the same day of the offence and has remained in custody since.

Magistrate Gary Wilson finalised the matter in Dubbo Local Court, where Doolan was committed to the Supreme Court in Sydney.

He will appear via audio visual link in August where a trial date and location will be set.
