He came over to the young person, pulling their face mask off and saying “I know you were riding up and down the street all last night”.

Hoper grabbed hold of his shirt before punching him to the right side of his face with a closed fist and pushing him off his bike, the court heard.

After seeing the attack, the relative rode off before the victim started running towards Sunset Way, leaving his bike behind.

Hoper took the bike into his backyard where his partner contacted the police who arrived a short time later with the 33-year-old making full admissions to officers.

He was arrested and charged.

Hoper entered a plea of guilty before Magistrate Gary Wilson on Thursday.

“It’s no way to react to this type of thing,” Mr Wilson said.

He noted Hoper’s limited record, but raised a prior incident of a similar nature in 2020 saying this contributed to his decision to convict the offender and issue a fine of $500.
