Beau Ryan, The Amazing Race Australia teams visit Dubbo

Western NSW will be showcased on a hit television series and host Beau Ryan says this time he’s leaving the bush with happier memories. FIND OUT WHY.

The Amazing Race Australia first look for 2021

The prime time television spotlight is set to shine on a family’s emu farm near Dubbo after it was chosen to feature on an upcoming episode of popular reality show The Amazing Race Australia.

Emu Logic — located on the edge of the Warrumbungle National Park about 128 kilometres north of Dubbo — welcomed Amazing Race contestants, production crew members and volunteers in November last year.

The lovely rain has meant extra weeding in the garden. Fortunately the emus are willing to help speed up the composting.

Farm owner Phil Henley said he was shocked to get a call out of the blue from producers who asked if they could film on his property.

“They wanted to try to fit the emus into the story and make a challenge,” Mr Henley said.

“It went off really well, the emus played their role very well.

“About 45 people came with the challenge, there was a lot of Dubbo people around who were roped in as drivers and and a few from the Film Club in Dubbo.”

For Amazing Race host and former Footy Show funnyman Beau Ryan, the visit to Emu Logic wasn’t his first time in the Dubbo region.

He previously visited when he played league for Illawarra and left the west with happier memories this time around.

“I’ve got memories of playing footy out there and not going too well, being beaten by Group 11,” he told The Dubbo News.

“I loved Emu Logic, it was fantastic.”

“I loved the locals, it’s just good to be around country people.”

Ryan praised the locals he met during filming and said he was proud to be able to showcase places tourists could see more of in their own backyards.

“There was plenty of drama out at Emu Logic, it’s one of my favourite episodes,” he said.

“I had my Akubra on just to blend in even though I had no idea what I was doing.

“We literally got off a bus that we drove from 4am in the Blue Mountains, arrived and then got straight into it. The locals were ready to go and were great.”

It was a whirlwind visit, but Ryan says he’ll be back.

“We’d been all over the country and we’d been to the outback in Queensland but not in NSW so it was good to see all that for what it was and meet some salt of the earth people.

“We were so busy while we in Dubbo, you get to see a lot of good parts of the town but there’s still so much to see.

“Dubbo’s one of the places I definitely want to hit again with the family ... I’d definitely go back there when I get time off in 2026.”

The Amazing Race Australia airs Sunday to Tuesday at 7.30pm on WIN.
