A lucrative $7.3 million ‘Centre of Excellence’ which is said to have “significant and economic benefits” is earmarked for Mudgee.
The proposal put forward by Mid-Western Regional Council will see an expansion of the existing complex, with a new sports training and accommodation facility to be erected.
“The development will be linked with the Glen Willow Regional Sports Complex, both physically and by the nature of the use,” the developer said.
“Mid-Western Council is progressively developing the Glen Willow Regional Sports Complex on land at Pitts Lane, Putta Bucca.
“The sports complex hosts a wide number of local and regional sporting events and provides facilities for many different sports and codes.”
While hosting a wide range of local sporting events, the complex has hosted a number of NRL games over the years.
Most recently, the complex held the annual pre-season Charity Shield match between the Rabbitohs and Dragons’ and the regular season match-up between the Manly Sea Eagles and Canberra Raiders.
As a result of the complex’s success, Mid-Western Regional Council “has determined that a sports training and recreation facility should be developed to provide fit for purpose accommodation and training facilities for visiting teams”.
If approved the facility will include a gym, medical room, two seminar rooms, kitchen and dining area, games room, prayer room, laundry, office, toilets, store room along with an outdoor seating and barbecue area.
With an “increase [in] traffic movements” expected within the proposed site, Mid-Western Regional Council has promised there will be “sufficient parking” available.
“Accessible parking spaces and bus bays are to be provided,” the developer said.
The ‘Centre of Excellence’ is on exhibition until October 28.
