A popular Irish pub in Mudgee has submitted a proposal for a $264,000 upgrade to the Mid-Western Regional Council — with a list of proposed changes to the well-known drinking hole.
The development application submitted by Kellys Irish Pub is set to redesign part of the ground level, including a reworking of the existing gaming room.
It will see an extension of the gaming area, utilising part of the existing driveway along with the relocation of the kid’s indoor play area to the southern part of the beer garden.
While noting the “proposed changes are minor”, the developer explained the gaming room will be extended to include “a cashier and entrance airlock”.
“The proposed gaming room does not aim to increase the number of gaming machines,” the developer continued.
“Therefore the number of patrons that can use the gaming room [will remain the same].”
If approved, the “slightly larger” gaming room will see a reduction in size to the bistro and beer garden, with aims of “improving the financial performance of the business”.
“A better performing business will better ensure the building – including its heritage fabric – will be best maintained into the future,” the developer said.
“The proposal will not detract from the heritage item or its heritage conservation area.”
Despite the proposal eating into the use of the existing driveway, the developer confirmed the number of parking spaces for patrons will not be affected.
