There’s something special about Bankstown Sports Club’s upcoming movie screening: the volume will be wound down, the lights will be dim and moviegoers will be free to move about and make as much noise as they like.
The special screening of Sherlock Gnomes 3D is known as a sensory movie session, where stimuli is muted so that people who have disabilities or are on the Autism spectrum can enjoy the experience.
It’s one of the ways Bankstown Sports is reaching out to the local community this DoSomething Day, an initiative of the DoSomething Foundation, NewsLocal and Your Local Club that aims at encouraging businesses and locals to volunteer.
The movie, Sherlock Gnomes 3D, revolves around a string of disappearances being investigated by the titular character (Johnny Depp), and his satirical sidekick, Gnome Watson (Chiwetel Ejiofor).
Supporting the infamous duo are characters voiced by Michael Caine, Mary J. Blige and Emily Blunt.
The sensory screening will take place on July 18 at 10.30am, with tickets costing $10 for adults and $5 for pensioners, seniors and children.
