The NSW Government is calling for expressions of interest in buying a 14,600 sqm parcel of land in Chatswood.
Property and Development NSW (PDNSW) has called for people to submit their interest in purchasing the site at 607 Pacific Hwy Chatswood for the development of new homes, public space and a 1000-student public school.
PDNSW deputy secretary Leon Walker said the site was currently being used for the construction of the Sydney Metro City and South-west project, with most of the site no longer required from 2024.
“PDNSW is working with Sydney Metro and School Infrastructure NSW (SINSW) to deliver social, economic and sustainable outcomes for the site, including a new government-operated public school for up to 1,000 students,” Mr Walker said.
“A portion of the site will be retained by Sydney Metro, with the majority being revitalised into a new precinct.
“With major road, rail and bus links, the property is within easy reach of Sydney’s CBD, major commercial precincts, health and education hubs and Sydney’s Northern Beaches, making it ideal for a new destination precinct in the heart of Chatswood.”
The 22ha Sydney Metro site is located south of Chatswood Station and north of Mowbray Rd with Sydney Metro expected to vacate by mid-2024, leaving an opportunity to develop the remaining land into an innovative mixed-use precinct.
Mr Walker said the delivery of a new public primary school at the site was essential to cater for the needs of the area’s growing population.
“This is part of the NSW Government’s $8.6 billion investment in school infrastructure over the next four years, building on more than $9.1 billion invested in projects delivered since 2017,” he said.
“The successful proponent will create a masterplan that demonstrates how the project will support local community needs … together with traffic and environmental considerations.”
The expression of interest campaign is being managed by JLL Australia and will conclude on February 15, 2023.
