Plans have been revealed for a 29-storey hotel spread across Kent and Erskine streets in Sydney’s CBD.
Concept approval for the $116 million State Significant Development rests with the Department of Planning, which seeks a building envelope of just over 96m tall.
The development at 301 to 305 Kent St and 35 to 39 Erskine St would wrap around another high-rise tower, approved at the corner of the streets, set to rise 16 storeys high.
It would replace the five-storey Siesta Inn Sydney backpackers hostel and a four-storey gym and fitness centre on Kent St, while three retail and residential terraces on Erskine St would make way.
In their place would be a new development with a two-level podium including lobby and function rooms, with 24-storeys of accommodation comprising 360 rooms above.
A rooftop bar and terrace are also slated in the plans.
There would be five levels of underground carparking.
“The proposed development will enhance the availability of well-designed hotel accommodation within central Sydney, supporting State and council strategic directions to enhance central Sydney’s role as a strategic and vibrant centre for tourism and employment,” documents submitted to the department state.
A spokeswoman for Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the City of Sydney was yet to settle on a position on the project.
“The City of Sydney is reviewing the proposal for a new 29-storey hotel on the corner of Kent and Erskine streets in Sydney and is likely to make a submission during the exhibition process,” she said.
The proposal has been submitted by Romanus Developments.
