Redfern station set for $100m upgrade
Work on a new southern concourse with six new lifts at Redfern station could start later this year, as Transport for NSW releases early plans. See the designs.
Redfern railway station is set for an accessiblity upgrade worth almost $100 million, to include new lifts and an additional concourse.
Transport for NSW has released early plans for the revamp of Sydney’s sixth busiest railway station, with major works slated for late 2019.
Plans for a proposed southern concourse would connect passengers to Little Eveleigh and Marian streets on either side of the tracks.
It would have lift and stair access to platforms one to 10 via six new elevators.
Transport for NSW is running information sessions about its proposal, and has called for public feedback until June 2.
Eleni Petinos, the parliamentary secretary for roads and transport, said community feedback would help in the development of more detailed plans.
“We have met with key stakeholders and local residents to present the proposed
upgrade and listen to what they think is important to make it more accessible,” Ms
Petinos said.
“One of the key features of the station upgrade involves building a new southern
concourse, allowing customers to more easily move around Redfern station.”
The upgrade forms part of the government and UrbanGrowth Development Corporation’s plans for Redfern and the North Eveleigh precinct.
However, a spokeswoman for Transport Minister Andrew Constance said in February no decisions about land sales of projects had been made.
The upgrade project will be funded by the Transport Access Program, which has injected $2.2 billion into 450 projects across NSW since 2011.
It is expected to cost in the mid $90 million range.
Work is hoped to be completed by late 2020.
