A Victorian panel beater took drugs at a festival before his girlfriend allegedly arranged for him to assault her ex-partner in the CBD – resulting in him being left unconscious on the footpath.
Jesse Georgiou, from Clayton, faced Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday from custody through video link and was sentenced to 21 months in jail after a violent assault.
Police facts state the 28-year-old received a text from his girlfriend Van Nguyen, the co-accused, allegedly asking him to “flock” her ex-boyfriend for her and Georgiou had agreed.
“OK babe but don’t kill him,” Nguyen wrote.
Nguyen allegedly lured the victim to Gloucester St, The Rocks, about 1.30am on October 6, where Georgiou and an unknown man showed up, police facts state.
The unknown man punched the victim in the face and Georgiou began punching and kicking his girlfriend’s ex-partner multiple times.
The victim tried to stumble away but the pair pursued him. The ex-boyfriend was kicked in the head several times, even after he had been knocked unconscious.
The trio jumped into a nearby Mercedes Benz leaving the victim lying motionless on the pavement.
Shortly after, police arrested Nguyen at the Shangri-La Hotel and discovered texts on her phone of her allegedly bragging about the assault.
“I set him up and told him to come see me. He came, two of my mates rocked up,” she wrote. “Left him sleeping with no phone … f--k we are funny.
“The f--king dog deserved it.”
Georgiou was arrested and pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm while in company.
The victim told police his relationship with the co-accused ended “poorly” because of his “philandering”, which he believed led to the assault, court documents state.
Officers noted the victim had a boot print on his forehead, a black eye, swollen lips, cuts and bruising on his head.
Georgiou has more than 100 offences in Victoria and the attack was “extremely concerning” as the assault continued while the victim was unconscious, police state.
At court, Georgiou’s lawyer Clayton James argued his client did not plan the assault and the co-accused allegedly had animosity towards her ex-boyfriend.
Mr James said Georgiou had taken drugs at a music festival with his girlfriend before the assault and has now been in custody for five months.
“He accepts his idiocy,” he said. “He has a drug problem.”
Magistrate Susan McIntyre said the assault was brief but “extremely aggressive” and “disturbing” which included the victim allegedly being lured to a set-up attack.
“It was (allegedly) pre-planned, vicious and meant to cause as much harm as possible,” she said.
Georgiou came to NSW to go to a festival while he was on an intensive corrections order in Victoria. His aggression was enhanced by the drugs he had taken at the festival, Ms McIntyre said.
Georgiou was sentenced to 21 months in jail, with a one-year non-parole period. He must also abide by a two-year AVO for the victim’s protection. He has already launched a sentence appeal.
Nguyen was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm in company, affray and robbery in company. She has not entered any pleas yet and her case has been adjourned to March 13 at Downing Centre Local Court.
