A former topless waitress-turned-beautician boasted she and her musclebound beau were making $50,000 a week selling drugs and she was planning to use the money to buy a luxury horse float, Rolex watch and handbags.
But Nateesha Jennifer Barlin’s high-flying lifestyle came to a crashing halt — for a second time — last year when her boyfriend Dylan Shaw and two of his alleged suppliers were arrested at Belmore in July.
Police discovered $179,000 cash in a hidden compartment in Shaw’s car while his two alleged suppliers were found with $25,600 in cash and 586.6g of cocaine.
The Drug and Firearm Squad established Strike Force Wandevan last year to investigate the alleged commercial supply of drugs by Shaw and his two “up-line” suppliers.
The investigation came after Shaw and Barlin pleaded guilty to importing steroids and human growth hormones between October 2014 and October 2016 following a two-year sting by Australian Border Force officers.
Following Shaw’s arrest last year, Barlin was charged with concealing a serious indictable offence and she later pleaded guilty.
An agreed set of police facts tendered to Gosford Local Court yesterday revealed Barlin knew about Shaw’s alleged drug supply in which he attracted customers on Facebook under the profile of “Tony Rhino” and directed them to use the encrypted App Wickr.
Police allege Shaw then directed customers to credit funds to Barlin’s company’s bank account Luxe Lashes and Beauty, which he was a joint account holder.
He then allegedly sent the drugs via the mail.
Between March 2018 and June 2018 Shaw allegedly supplied drugs to undercover officers who planted a listening device in the car of one of his up-line suppliers.
The device captured a conversation between Barlin and a supplier in which she boasted about how much money they were making.
“It’s just annoying because what Dylan has going at the moment is really good because he’s not doing anything,” she was recorded saying.
“He’s being smart about it and he’s moving about 2 kilos a week and we’re making 50 grand a week. We pick up the occas (ounces) we make $1000 each one. Most people are buying them for 5.9 but we’re buying them for 5 so we’re $900 in front. So that’s like 45 grand a week we’re making.
“We had like $300 grand or something. It’s scary amount. Now he’s put it in product we’ve not got much left. So he bought the car, you (the accused) can go buy your horse float, I’ll give you the money for the float and he’s like buying me, for my birthday I’m getting a Rolex and five hand bags.”
Earlier this month Barlin narrowly avoided jail after a District Court Judge put her on an 18-month intensive corrections order (ICO), ordered she perform 300 hours community service and made her surrender $500 in surety for her role in the importation of steroids.
But her luck ran out yesterday when Magistrate Peter Barnett sentenced the 24-year-old, of Wyee, to 14 months jail with a non-parole period of six months for the concealing offence.
She lodged an immediate severity appeal and was later released on bail and will face court at a future date.
Shaw, 25, meanwhile was sentenced to at least 11 months behind bars for his role in the “criminal enterprise” to import and distribute steroids, testosterone and human growth hormones.
He returns to Gosford District Court on June 13 for mention over the alleged commercial supply of prohibited drugs. He has not entered any pleas.
