The Terrigal Boardwalk is set to officially open to the public on April 14.
The opening will round off a year of construction work on the $6m project designed to provide an easily accessible pedestrian link between The Esplanade and The Haven.
It comes as trespassers are warned to steer clear of the site with many people seen accessing it during low tide over the weekend.
One man posted to social media “Terrigal – top day at the opening of the Terrigal Boardwalk. Big crowds making the most of the sunshine and blue skies”.
On Monday morning, Central Coast Council warned locals to steer clear of the construction site.
“We are aware of a number of people unlawfully accessing Terrigal Boardwalk today from the beach at low tide or by pushing open construction fencing, and would like to remind residents and visitors that the boardwalk is still under construction with access only for construction crews and workers,” a council statement read.
“Construction is expected to be complete in three weeks when Council along with the NSW State Government officially open the site following the removal of construction fencing, barriers and signage.”
Central Coast Parliamentary Secretary Adam Crouch said LED lighting had been installed within the hardwood handrail and over the weekend and a 48-hour “burn-in test” was conducted.
“After waiting many years for this dream to become a reality, I am delighted to confirm that the Terrigal Boardwalk will open to the community on Wednesday 14 April,” he said.
“I know the Terrigal community is incredibly keen to explore the boardwalk as soon as it opens. Once it opens, the boardwalk will significantly improve access for parents with prams, people with a disability and the elderly who struggle to walk up the existing steep pathway.”
It was May 2018 when Mr Crouch launched a petition for funding for the boardwalk indicating it had been on the dream list for around 20 years.
The Terrigal Boardwalk project is jointly funded by Central Coast Council and the State Government.
