Tattooist Howard Rollins pleads not guilty to aiding genital mutilation
An American man, who is the self-proclaimed “inventor of the eyeball tattoo”, has pleaded not guilty to aiding and abetting another man to mutilate a woman’s genitalia at Erina.
Howard Rollins, 41, of Sydney, appeared at Gosford Local Court today where he formally entered a plea of “not guilty” to a single charge of aiding co-accused Brendan Leigh Russell in burning off the labia majora of a female victim on January 5, 2015, at Newcastle West.
Mr Rollins, who was known in body modification circles as the `Luna Cobra’ was arrested at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport in September last year by virtue of an interstate warrant.
He will be arraigned in Gosford District Court next Thursday.
Mr Rollins’ arrest came after his co-accused, Brendan Leigh Russell, of Terrigal, was charged in August with mutilating the same 33-year-old woman.
Mr Russell was also charged with the manslaughter of another woman, Samantha Hegyi, after he allegedly implanted a plastic snowflake under the skin of her right hand using anaesthetics, scalpels and other medical equipment.
Mr Russell will also face court again next week after his solicitor successfully sought last month to vary his bail so he could travel to and from work as a barber at Newcastle on his own.
Previously he was not allowed to leave his Terrigal address unless he was in the company of his mother or his partner.
He is yet to enter any pleas.
