A body, believed to be that of a missing fisherman who fell from rocks at Timber Beach last week, has been recovered.
About 10.15am on Thursday, a member of the public located a body on rocks about 100m offshore, near Wybung Head.
Tuggerah Lake police, Marine Area Command and the Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter then began a retrieval operation.
The body is yet to be formally identified but it is believed to be that of a 62-year-old man who fell from rocks while rock fishing south of Caves Beach on Sunday.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
An air and water search for the rock fisherman was called off earlier in the week.
The man had been fishing with a friend before 10.40am on Sunday when he was swept off rocks into the water and then sucked into the cave at Snapper Point.
He was believed to be wearing a lifejacket.
Acting Inspector Stephen Wade told Nine News that the man leant over to pick up a fish and fell in to the water below.
Snapper Point, in the Lake Munmorah Conservation Area, is one of the most treacherous stretches of coastline in Australia.
Nine fatalities have been recorded at this location in the last decade.
